SAFETY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM <br />Hazardous Materials Management Program Contingency Plan <br />SUBJECT: HAZARDOUS MATERIAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAM <br />TITLE: HAZARDOUS WASTE CONTINGENCY <br />PLAN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE: 7/22/02 <br />PAGE 1 OF 14 <br />DISTRIBUTION: Stockton Medical Center <br />POLICY <br />This contingency plan is designed to minimize hazards to human health or <br />the environment from fires, explosions, or any unplanned sudden or non - <br />sudden release of hazardous waste or hazardous waste constituents to air, <br />soil, or surface water. <br />The provisions of this plan shall be carried out immediately whenever <br />there is a fire, explosion, or release of hazardous waste or hazardous <br />waste constituents which could threaten human health or the environment. <br />It is the Medical Center's policy that in those departments where the <br />potential for significant hazardous material spills exist that those <br />departments are properly trained. The Environmental Services <br />Department will primarily be responsible for "first response" at the <br />awareness level. First response at the awareness level includes primary <br />identification, isolation, containment, neutralization (when possible) and <br />appropriate initial clean up procedures based on the type and amount of <br />chemical, level of risk, time of day/week, and whether or not personal <br />injury has occurred, and will be assisted by departmental staff for <br />identification and obtainment of Material Safety Data Sheets. <br />Fresno Revision dates: 09/12/96, 6/25/98, 3/30/00, 8/1/01,Stockton revision date 07/22/02, <br />09/19/02, 3/20/03,02/12/04, 07/06 <br />
