0 <br />Stockton Surgery Center <br />Facilities & Environment Manual <br />Section: Hazardous Materials <br />Title: Code Orange: Emergency Response to a Chemical Spill <br />Policy # <br />OBJECTIVE <br />• To establish the procedure of responding to a chemical spill within the facility <br />• The spill kit is located in the PACU Clean Utility Room <br />PROCEDURE <br />HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL SPILL RESPONSIBILITIES <br />1. Spill Finder: <br />The spill finder will: <br />a. Notify the Administrator and/or Safety Officer of all chemical spills. <br />b. Secure the area to prevent tracking and contamination of other areas. <br />C. Notify all departments that might be affected by the spill. <br />d. Determine the extent of the spill and whether personnel in the spill area need to be <br />evacuated. <br />e. If evacuation is necessary, page three times "Code Orange" and location. <br />d. Remain at the scene until assistance arrives. <br />e. Document occurrence. <br />2. Department Charge Person/designee: <br />The department where the chemical spill occurred will: <br />a. Identify chemical that was spilled. <br />b. Provide spill clean-up procedures for the specific chemical from MSDS. <br />C, Insure availability of equipment and materials for control and clean-up, i.e. spill kit. <br />d. Insure information is provided to all employees who may be exposed and or involved in <br />clean-up and limit access to area. <br />e. Coordinate all procedures with the Safety Officer. <br />f. Notify department personnel for clean-up of spills under 500ml (Class I). <br />g. Document occurrence. <br />3.
