l J <br />Stockton Surgery Center <br />Facilities & Environment Manual <br />Section: Hazardous Materials <br />Title: Labeling of Biohazard Materials and Wastes <br />Policy # <br />OBJECTIVE <br />• To protect staff, patients and visitors from all hazardous or potentially hazardous biohazard <br />materials and/or waste <br />PROCEDURE <br />1. The Center will identify the following items by use of the universal "biohazard" symbol: <br />a. containers of biohazard materials and/or waste <br />b. refrigerators/freezers containing biohazard materials and/or waste <br />C. sharps disposal containers <br />d. other containers used to store or transport biohazard materials and/or waste. <br />2. Chemicals that are transferred from a large storage container to a smaller container will be labeled <br />with the same information as present on the original container. <br />3. Labels for small containers are obtained from the manufacturer of the chemical. <br />4. Labels will contain at least the following information: <br />a. name of the product <br />b. name of the hazardous chemical in the product <br />C. the physical and health hazards of the product <br />d. personal protective equipment to be used <br />e. target organs <br />f. National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) symbol. <br />S.
