0 0 Fa -zl <br />Stockton Surgery Center <br />Facilities & Environment Manual <br />Section: Hazardous Materials <br />Title: Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) <br />Policy # <br />OBJECTIVE <br />To ensure that all personnel who handle or would be potentially exposed to hazardous chemicals in the <br />course of their duties will understand the use of MSDS sheets <br />POLICY <br />The availability of Material Safety Data Sheets is essential to a compliant Hazard Communication <br />program and will ensure that the information is easily retrievable in the case of an accidental exposure. <br />THE MSDS Manual is located in the PACU <br />PROCEDURE <br />Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) will be: <br />1. Available in the workplace for each chemical used. <br />2. Requested prior to ordering a multi -chemical product to evaluate impact on facility resources. <br />3. Specific to the manufacturer of a multi -chemical product. <br />4. Updated annually and as needed by a request to the manufacturer and/or vendor. <br />5. Maintained in the facility master file. <br />6. Maintained for 30 years as it is an exposure record. <br />7. Filed in alphabetical order. <br />8. Printed list in alphabetical order, <br />Reviewed with every employee in the department/work area prior to the first use of that chemical <br />by the employee and when a new hazardous substance is introduced into the workplace. <br />11.
