6/15/05 <br />I� SUTTER TRACY COMMUNITY HOSPITAL <br />STANDARD POLICIES AND PROCEDURES 2005 JUL` J i TH"'2: 44 <br />Guide for Safe Operation of <br />HEALTH DEPtRTM NT <br />the San -I -Pak Sterilizer/Compactor <br />INDEX NO: SAF 30.95.00 <br />ORIGINATED: <br />HOSPITAL SVC: Safety/ Hazmat <br />LAST BOARD APPROVAL: 06/30/03 <br />DEPARTMENT: Hospital -wide <br />The following procedure will be followed by authorized personnel to operate this equipment. <br />To ensure a safe and secure environment for staff and community. <br />TG • <br />A. Sterilizer <br />1. See that all bio -hazardous waste is properly secured in autoclavable bags prior to <br />loading into sterilizer. <br />Warning: Do not inset a load into the sterilizer unless you intend to run <br />the load immediately. A meltdown and chamber fire may <br />result. See procedure step #7 on how to treat a chamber fire. <br />2. Check the steam gauge at the right rear of the machine approximately one foot <br />from the cement. The pressure should read no less than 70 lbs. I Should it be less <br />than that and does not rise to that pressure in 5 minutes, call Maintenance. <br />3. If the pressure is above 70 lbs., proceed by opening the sterilizer load door by <br />turning the wheel left, (counter -clockwise). Open the door and secure with latch. <br />Before loading, check the digital display at the top left of the stainless steel <br />facing. It should read "San -I -Pak ready for use, Chamber Temp _Degrees F..." <br />this temp should be appy -exp a razir�imum (?f'250 degrees Fahretiheit, fir• a <br />miiiimum of 30 nibmtes. If it does not read as above, call maintenance. If the <br />readings are correct, insert the load into the chamber. A full load would be <br />considered 4 full bags. Assure all red bags are punctured with the probe <br />
