You should re -check the machine within 15 minutes of
beginning the vacuum cycle. Once the vacuum cycle is complete it will cycle into
the sterilization cycle which is of 30 minutes duration. Should it not reach the
sterilization cycle, it will have gone into vacuum failure. At this time, you must
document sterilization issue and re -start the sterilization process. If the
temperature of 250"F cannot be reached during the second processing cycle, call
Maintenance immediately. #'Maintenance cannot resolve the problem, contact
SaniPak (209-836-2310 x 121). Note: If at any time bio- waste cannot be
processed, the California Medical Disposal Service must be called for pickup
(559-834-5850). The load must not remain in the chamber for more than an
hour without the load being run. this will generally result in a melt down
and stand an excellent chance of resulting in a fire.
7. In case you observe smoke coming from the top of the San -I -Pak or the
compactor, call maintenance. Should you see flames of any type coming from
the unit, the fire alarm should be sounded through the normal channels
because it threatens the hospital. No doors on the machine will be opened
under this condition for any reason. A call to Maintenance will normally be
sufficient under smoke conditions. Maintenance will be able to run the load
to put the melt down or fire condition out.
8. This is a shortened version of the step by step operation.
a. Check steam pressure, 70 PSI minimum
b. Open load chamber door
