UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS (BSI) <br />d. Direct care providers who have frequent contact with blood or body <br />-fluids should be irmaunized against hepatitis B. <br />10. Supplies Needed for BSI <br />The following list is a suggested level. Par levels are to be detemined <br />by unit/department manager: <br />a. Patient Roam <br />1) Disposable non-sterile gloves, size medium - 1 box <br />2) Sharps disposal unit <br />3) Masks (only for patients with airborne diseases) - 1 box placed iri- <br />aiediately inside the room on the shelf over the sink (Do not tape <br />a box of masks to wall inside or outside of the patient's room). <br />b. nursing Unit <br />Place the following items of protective covering in a central area of <br />the utility room for easy accessibility. <br />1) Disposable non-sterile gloves, size swall - l box <br />2) Disposable non-sterile gloves, size large - 1 box. (Personnel <br />requiring gloves of these size should put several pairs in their <br />pocket at the beginning of their work shift and replace them as <br />they are used. <br />3) Disposable non-sterile gloves size medium - 4 boxes <br />4) Eye coverings (goggles) - 6 boxes (1 per box) (After use the <br />glasses should be washed and kept by the patient care provider for <br />future .use. ) <br />5) Disposable gowns - 24 <br />6) Aprons, disposable plastic - 24 <br />7) Ziplock plastic bags, small - i box (for transporting specimens) <br />8) Plastic bags - clear bags "x23", used to transport re-usuable <br />items to CSR for reprocessing <br />-9) Red infectious waste bags <br />10) Face masks for resuscitation - 6 <br />11) Stop Sign Aleri (Place several signs in designated areas. One <br />sign is to be placed on door to room of patient with airborne <br />disease. Signs are to be taken down and discarded when the patient <br />no longer needs airborne precautions.) <br />
