To accomplish this the Hazardous Materials and Waste Management <br /> Program has been developed to comply with Federal standards, laws and regulations of <br /> the Environmental Protection Agency(EPA), the Department of Transportation (DOT), <br /> and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as well as any other <br /> laws and regulations required under Cal/OSHA, the California Department of Health <br /> Services, California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) and The Joint <br /> Commission (TJC) Management of the Environment of Care Standards. <br /> The goals of this program are to: <br /> 1. Reduce the risk of employee exposure by providing appropriate training, equipment, <br /> and Personal Protective Equipment(PPE)to manage the handling of hazardous <br /> materials and wastes; <br /> 2. Reduce the risk of contamination of the internal environment by providing <br /> appropriate space and equipment for the storage, handling,and disposal of <br /> hazardous materials and wastes; <br /> 3. Reduce the risk of exposure for patients and members of the public by providing <br /> appropriate staff training and equipment to manage the handling of hazardous <br /> materials; <br /> 4. Reduce the risk of environmental contamination by managing the packing, labeling, <br /> hauling, and disposal of hazardous wastes in accordance with applicable laws and <br /> regulations; and <br /> 5. Reduce the risk of exposure for staff, patients and members of the public by <br /> appropriately selecting the least hazardous chemical to effectively perform the task <br /> required. <br /> 6.
