Sutter Roseville Medical Center <br /> Sutter Solano Medical Center <br /> Sutter Tracy Community Hospital <br /> PURPOSE <br /> The purpose of the Sutter Valley Area Hazardous Materials and Waste Management <br /> Program is to establish, support and maintain a safe environment for employees during <br /> the selection, handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials. All affiliates <br /> manage hazardous materials and waste from receipt(or generation)through final use or <br /> disposal. <br /> The goal of this program is to reduce exposure risks through employee awareness and <br /> competence. It should be noted that the non-RCRA waste may also be known by the <br /> term "California Only'. <br /> RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY <br /> A. The Governing Board: Commitment to and financial support for provision of a <br /> safe environment of care consistent with the mission, services, laws and <br /> regulations. Delegates program management responsibilities to hospital <br /> administration. <br /> B. Administration: Commitment to Hazardous Materials and Waste Management <br /> Program is demonstrated through policy statement, delegation of program <br /> management to the Safety Officer/Coordinator and/or designee to ensure <br /> program effectiveness. <br /> C. The Hazardous Materials Coordinator is appointed to assist with the <br /> development and implementation of the affiliate program. Duties will indude: <br /> 1. Chairing the Hazardous Materials and Waste Management <br /> Subcommittee, <br /> 2. Being a standing member of the affiliate Environment of Care/Safety <br /> Committee, <br /> 3. Functioning as the liaison between the subcommittee and Environment of <br /> Care/Safety Committee, <br /> 4. Providing regular reports to the Environment of Care/Safety Committee <br /> regarding Subcommittee activities, <br /> 5. Providing a written quarterly report to the Environment of Care/Safety <br /> Committee, <br /> 6. Providing an annual Environment of Care—Safety Dashboard of <br /> Hazardous Materials and Waste Management Program to the <br /> Environment of Care/Safety Committee, <br /> 7. Serving as a resource to staff. <br /> 8. Managing the 3E database. <br /> D. The Radiation Safety Officer has primary responsibility for the radioactive waste <br /> program. <br /> E. The Environmental Services Manager or designee has primary responsibility for <br /> medical/infectious wastes, including sharps and has primary responsibility for <br /> Hazardous Materials and Waste Management Page 2 of 9 C.00 <br />
