The Hazardous Materials Coordinator has primary responsibility for bulk RCRA <br /> chemotherapeutic and hazardous chemicals and wastes. <br /> G. The Safety Officer: Safety Officer/Coordinator and/or Director: Appointed bythe <br /> CEO to oversee the program through coordination of the Environment of <br /> Care/Safety Committee, oversight of the environment of care and delegation of <br /> task to designated staff; also serves as a resource. <br /> H. The Environment of Care/Safety Committee: Facilitates the exchange and <br /> documentation of appropriate information, recommendations and follow-up <br /> required between Administration, departments, Quality Management, and the <br /> Hazardous MaterialstEmergency Management subcommittee. <br /> I. The Hazardous MaterialstEmergency Management Subcommittee: The <br /> Hazardous Materials/Emergency Management subcommittee is responsible for: <br /> 1. Monitoring the functions of the Hazardous Materials Management <br /> Program by collecting and evaluating information pertaining to the <br /> program; <br /> 2. Meeting on a regular basis and providing reports to the Environment of <br /> Care/Safety Committee regarding issues,trends, needs, resolutions and <br /> opportunities for improvement via the Subcommittee chairperson; <br /> 3. Developing and implementing program guidelines with approval of the <br /> Environment of Care/Safety Committee. <br /> 4. In conjunction with the Product Review Committee (if applicable), reviews <br /> all new chemicals with the requisitioner, recommending and encouraging <br /> substitution of a less or non-hazardous chemical whenever possible <br /> 5. Conducting audits. <br /> J. Department Directors and Managers are responsible for ensuring the health and <br /> safety of their staff, patients, visitors and the community environment. As such <br /> they will <br /> 1. In consultation with the Safety Officer/Coordinator, and review of the <br /> Safety Data Sheet(SDS), determine which chemicals they use are <br /> hazardous and if less hazardous materials would be suitable; <br /> 2. Maintain department inventory lists and SDS to the Hazardous Materials <br /> Coordinator; <br /> 3. Implement and maintain the hazardous materials and waste management <br /> program within their departments; <br /> 4. Provide training to their staff to ensure that they are knowledgeable of <br /> their roles and responsibilities regarding dean-up of incidental or minor <br /> spills, and handling and diEposing of hazardous materials and waste; <br /> 5. Provide and ensure training for the proper use of PPE. <br /> 6. Coordinate installation/maintenance of engineering controls as <br /> appropriate to control hazardous exposures. <br /> 7.
