E <br />Policy: <br />POLICY AND PROCEDURE <br />Disposal Of Medical/Biohazard Waste <br />All medical waste, as defined by the facility's "Infection Control Committee" (in <br />compliance with the California Health and Safety code), will be collected by <br />nursing in designated containers located in the utility room and then stored in <br />a locked area under the supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor, until picked - <br />up for disposal by: <br />(Name of Medical/Biohazard Waste Disposal Company) <br />(Address) <br />(City,, State, Zip <br />Zip Code) <br />(Telephone Number) <br />Procedure: <br />As a minimum, all medical waste will be collected at the site of origin <br />and shall be bagged in "red" biohazard bags of at least 165 gram dart impact <br />resistance. The collection bag will be within a rigid container labeled on <br />all four (4) sides and top with the word "Biohazard" and with the biohazard <br />symbol and remain closed until the container is transported to the collection <br />area in the utility room. At the collection area, the "biohazard bag" will <br />be tied closed and transferred into the rigid collection container, labeled <br />on all four (4) sides and top with the word "Biohazard" and wi'uh the <br />biohazard symbol. The rigid biohazard collection containers will be lined <br />with "red" biohazard bags. The Utility Room door will have a sign indicating <br />"Biohazard Waste". <br />2. The housekeeping staff will take the medical waste collection containers to <br />the "Biohazard" storage area in the rear of the facility two (2) times each <br />day (a.m. and p.m.) for emptying. <br />3. In the locked storage area, in back of the facility, the bagged "biohazard" <br />waste will be placed directly into a leak -proof, rodent -proof, storage <br />container with a tight fitting lid identified and labeled with the words <br />"Biohazard Waste" and the international biohazard symbol.
