E Policy: POLICY AND PROCEDURE Disposal Of Medical/Biohazard Waste All medical waste, as defined by the facility's "Infection Control Committee" (in compliance with the California Health and Safety code), will be collected by nursing in designated containers located in the utility room and then stored in a locked area under the supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor, until picked - up for disposal by: (Name of Medical/Biohazard Waste Disposal Company) (Address) (City,, State, Zip Zip Code) (Telephone Number) Procedure: As a minimum, all medical waste will be collected at the site of origin and shall be bagged in "red" biohazard bags of at least 165 gram dart impact resistance. The collection bag will be within a rigid container labeled on all four (4) sides and top with the word "Biohazard" and with the biohazard symbol and remain closed until the container is transported to the collection area in the utility room. At the collection area, the "biohazard bag" will be tied closed and transferred into the rigid collection container, labeled on all four (4) sides and top with the word "Biohazard" and wi'uh the biohazard symbol. The rigid biohazard collection containers will be lined with "red" biohazard bags. The Utility Room door will have a sign indicating "Biohazard Waste". 2. The housekeeping staff will take the medical waste collection containers to the "Biohazard" storage area in the rear of the facility two (2) times each day (a.m. and p.m.) for emptying. 3. In the locked storage area, in back of the facility, the bagged "biohazard" waste will be placed directly into a leak -proof, rodent -proof, storage container with a tight fitting lid identified and labeled with the words "Biohazard Waste" and the international biohazard symbol.
