Removing Blood and Body Fluid Spills from Floor: Major Spills <br />Using Emergency Response Kit [blood spill kit) <br />Equipment: A. Emergency Response Kit [ blood spill kit ). <br />B. Wet floor signs. <br />Procedure: A. Set out wet floor signs to prevent falls or injury. <br />B. Wash hands using good hand washing techniques <br />C. Put on disposable gloves and eye shield; [if applicable wear <br />semi -permeable gown]. <br />D. Completely cover the spill with the Red Z powder from the <br />enclosed pouch in the kit. <br />E. Once the spill is solidified, pick it up using the enclosed <br />shovel and dispose of it in the white bag. <br />F. Seal the bag using the twist tie enclosed in the kit. <br />G. Wipe the area with the enclosed germicidal or chloride <br />Towelette. <br />H. Dry the area with the absorbent paper towel. <br />I. Dispose all the material, including gloves in the red plastic <br />bag and secure with a twist tie. <br />J. Dispose of eye shield. <br />K. Wash hands. <br />L. Discard red bag in an infectious waste container. <br />M. May wipe hands with the enclosed antiseptic wipe. Air dry. <br />N. Remove wet floor signs. <br />Page 4 <br />
