t <br />A <br />GENERAL INFECTION CONTROL POLICY STATEMENTS <br />i. ADMISSION <br />A°-voGi:ton conva1esCant will not knowingly admit any patient directly <br />into Strict or Respiratory Isolation. If a condition occurs within <br />the facility which necessitates such an isolation situation, the <br />process of discharge to the hospital will be initiated. If the <br />process is not followed through and completed by the attending physi- <br />cian within 24 hours, the Medical Director will be notified for <br />further discharge planning. <br />All aspects of each individual case are taken into consideration to <br />determine the appropriateness of all admissions. <br />If an infectious process is present: <br />1. Culture any draining wound if appropriate <br />2. Isolate patient by Catagory (A) <br />3. Then Isolate by specific disease (B) according to pathogen identi- <br />fication <br />B. Ston -:ton comr. Iosp will accept a new patient directly into iso- <br />lation only if appropriate bed and room arrangements are available <br />and ready at the time of admission. <br />Residents with draining wounds contained by dressings will be con- <br />sidered at Drainage/Secretion Precautions level of isolation and <br />kept in the facility. Residents with infectious draining lesions or <br />wounds that cannot be contained with a dressing should be placed in <br />Contact Isolation or may be transferred to an acute care setting <br />when appropriate. <br />C. All newly admitted patients are screened on admission for tuberculo- <br />sis. Page # ��� <br />
