*R=, CONVALESCENT HCSPITAL <br />Linen Control <br />Policy: Clean and soiled linens must be handled, stored <br />and processed in a manner that will prevent the spread <br />of infection. <br />Procedure: <br />A. Soiled Linens: <br />1. Soiled linens shall be stored in rooms marked <br />"Soiled Linen". These rooms are equipped with <br />continuously running exhaust fans. <br />a. Soiled linens shall be stored in ap-- <br />propriately marked carts and kept cover- <br />ed. Never store soiled linens in <br />patient rooms, showers, corridors, <br />on the floor or on furniture. <br />2. When soiled linens are transported to the <br />laundry area, they must be kept well covered. <br />3. All soiled linens shall enter the= -_laundry <br />l area through the door labeled "Soiled Linen". <br />ll They must be placed inside the sorting room, <br />and the door must be securely closed. Soiled <br />linens shall never be allowed to accumulate <br />outside the sorting room. <br />4. The Laundry Worker shall sort and rinse soiled <br />linen as needed. Wash loads must go directly <br />from the sorting room into the washing machine <br />without being allowed to accumulate in the <br />laundry area. <br />5. Laundry and linens from patients with infections <br />or communicable diseases shall be delivered <br />directly from the infectious area to the sort- <br />ing room in doubled red -bags or dissolvable <br />bags securely tied. These items shall not be <br />stored --in the "Soiled Linen" rooms nor allowed <br />to.come in contact with other linens. <br />a. The laundry worker shall remove the <br />red bags and place the infectious soiled <br />linens directly into the washing machine. <br />
