INFC <br /> Wagner Heights Convalescent Hospital <br /> Date Effective: October 01 , 1988 Date Revised: <br /> SUBJECT: INFECTIOUS WASTE <br /> -------------------------- <br /> POLICY : Provision is made to provide a sanitary method of <br /> containment and disposal of infectious waste. <br /> DEFINITION : Infectious waste is any substance which may harbor <br /> or transmit pathogenic organisms. These are: <br /> 1 . All tissues , specimens or blood elements , <br /> excreta and secretions obtained from patients. <br /> 2. Any disposable product that comes in contact <br /> with the patient. <br /> 3 . Equipment , instruments , utensils and fomites <br /> of a disposable nature , from the rooms of <br /> patients with suspected or diagnosed communicable <br /> disease requiring isolation. <br /> STORAGE : 1 . Di le waste cont rner Co"INF`EC�TIOUS <br /> WASTE" ar ocated in each uti ty room. ) They <br /> are lined wit red p1a t -bags ae are <br /> r, \na f fes` � provided by the Stockton Scavenger Co any. <br /> 7 <br /> 2 . The designated infectious waste storage area is <br /> located in a separate locked building outside <br /> the rear of the facility . This area is identified <br /> by a red and white sign which reads in English and <br /> 0,A y Spanish : "CAUTION - INFECTIOUS WASTE STORAGE AREA , <br /> re 1,4 UNAUTHORIZED PERSONS KEEP OUT." <br /> U/' �'" <br /> PROCEDURE : 1 . All infectious waste will be put into a red plastic <br /> bag at the bedside as generated. <br /> 2 . It is securely tied and placed in the infectious <br /> waste container in the utility room. <br /> 1 <br />
