James Miller
Re: DCH Hazardous Waste Policy
Dear Miller,
As per our telephone conversation of this date, we
are transmitting the most recent DCH policy regarding the
care, preservation and transportation of hazardous waste
for this facility.
We have some concerns, however:
1 . If we render our "sharps" sterile by auto-
claving, are we then allowed to place them
in the same garbage dumpster utilized for
other purposes?
2. If we have a valid contract in force with a
sanitary disposal operator who will make
pickups of hazardous materials on a "as needed"
basis, must we have an additional container
on the premises marked exclusively for
Hazardous Wastes?
We request your indulgence in assisting us with this
program. As stated this morning, we have been placed on
notice by the state Department of Health Services that we
will suffer penalties for failing to have an approved policy
in force during last weeks inspection, therefore we must
receive a consensus from your organization as to whether our
policy is acceptable, or in need of revisement.
Your assistance in this matter will be greatly apprec-
iated.
In addition, it will be advantageous if we could
arrange for an inspection of our facility to ascertain if
there are additional requirements needed in order to comply
with all of the updated legislation.
Ver r ly yours,
A Bert C.
