-7- <br /> D. SANITARY LANDFILL: <br /> 1 . The term "sanitary landfill" refers to the <br /> land disposal technique as described in the <br /> Code of Federal Regulations, Title 40, Part <br /> 241 - "Guidelines for the Land Disposal of <br /> Solid Wastes. ' <br /> 2® In addition to meeting the above requirements <br /> for a sanitary landfill, the operation shall <br /> adhere to the following procedures when <br /> hazardous wastes associated with medical <br /> services are received: <br /> A. A receiving plan to insure separate <br /> handling at the site of hazardous wastes <br /> associated with medical services shall be <br /> developed and used. <br /> b. Hazardous wastes associated with medical <br /> services shall be buried immediately upon <br /> arrival at the sanitary landfill® <br /> c® Unloading of hazardous wastes associated <br /> with medical services shall be in a separate <br /> location away from the working face where <br /> burial, without compacting, is accomplished <br /> immediately; or if it is to be placed in <br /> the working face, an immediate covering of <br /> the load with other solid wastes or soil <br /> shall occur before any compaction is <br /> commenced. <br /> d® The goal shall be to limit the exposure to <br /> only the truck driver and the tractor driver, <br /> and to minimize these exposures® <br /> e. The plans for and operation of sanitary land- <br /> fills accepting hazardous wastes associated <br /> with medical services shall be approved by <br /> the local health officer. <br /> 3. If operations, such as shredding or baling occur <br /> at the sanitary landfill, no loads of hazardous <br /> wastes associated with medical services shall be <br /> 'processed in these operations. <br />
