Harprit S. Mattu [EH]
From: Harprit S. Mattu [EH]
Sent: Tuesday, March 15, 2016 2:12 PM
To:'pgross@winecountrycarecenter.com'
Subject: Medical Waste Inspection
Attachments: Medical Waste Management Plan Updated Final.pdf; Medical Waste Management Plan
Updated Final.doc; 20160314144239984.pdf; 20160314150006763.pdf;
20160315134622215.pdf
Hi Paul,
I just wanted to bring a few things to your attention. When looking at your medical waste treatment records from
Barnett, at the very bottom there is a "certificate of destruction incineration" line and a "certification of destruction
autoclave" line below it. Biohazardous waste does not have to be incinerated, it can be treated by steam
sterilization. Pharmaceutical waste must be incinerated. On the medical waste treatment records, signatures are
present for all autoclaved waste, but no signatures are present for waste that was incinerated. At the top of the
treatment document, the hauler will check off the box of an alternate treatment facility when pharmaceutical waste is
picked up. This is to designate that the pharmaceutical waste will go to a different facility for incineration. The only
issue with the treatment records is that none have a signature certifying incineration when pharmaceutical waste was
picked up. Please discuss with your hauler.
The other item I wanted to discuss is the Medical Waste Management Plan (MWMP). I cannot find any emails that I sent
regarding the MWMP so I apologize for that. I normally email everyone a Template which I have attached to this
email. you do not have to use this template. Most people like to use the template because if every question is
answered, all of the requirements of MWMP listed in the regulations are met. The items that your plan are missing are
Section 117960 (h), and (k). The section (h) in your plan meets the requirements of section (i) in the regulations. If you
need a sample statement that will meet section (k) refer to the MWMP template attached. Also, please sign the plan
when completed.
If you have any questions or concerns, you can respond to this email, or call me at 209-468-3284, and I will get back to
you as soon as possible.
Thank you,
Harprit S.
