a. The laundry worker shall remove the infectious <br /> soiled linens directly into the washing machine. <br /> These items must be laundered separately, not <br /> with other soiled linens. <br /> b. After handling infectious linens, the laundry <br /> worker shall deliver the discarded red bags directly <br /> to the infectious waste storage shed and placed <br /> in the box with lid tightly closed. <br /> c. Prior to returning to the laundry area or coming <br /> in contact with other linens or other areas of <br /> the facility the laundry worker must disinfect <br /> gloves and apron and must thoroughly wash her <br /> hands with plenty of soap and water)—The <br /> infectious linen container shall be washed and <br /> cleaned after each use. <br /> 6. Soiled linen containers shall be washed and wiped clean <br /> with a germicidal detergent ( available in the "Janitor" <br /> closet) . This msut be clone each time soiled linen <br /> containers are emptied and before they are re-used for <br /> transporting. <br /> B. CLEAN LINENS: <br /> 1 . Freshly laundered linens shall be dried and folded in <br /> the laundry area prior to re-use. <br /> a. Wet, clean linens shall be taken from the washing <br /> machine and placed in transport carts designed <br /> specifically for that use. They shall be <br /> transported directly to the dryers, placed inside <br /> and the machine turned on. Care must be taken <br /> to insure that plastics or shrinkable items are <br /> not placed in the dryers. <br /> b. Once dry, clean linens shall be placed in the <br /> transport carts and delivered to the folding area. <br /> Caution must be takne to insure that clean linens <br /> do not come in contact with the floor or other <br /> contaminated surfaces. <br /> c.t Clean linens are folded in the laundry area at <br /> the folding table. Clean items may be temporarily <br /> stored on this table, but must be moved to the <br /> patient areas as promptly as possible. <br />
