TRACY CONVALESCENT HOSPITAL , INC. INFECTION CONTROL POLICIES AND PROCEDURES DEFINITION AND PURPOSE OF ISOLATION To prevent the spread of communicalbe and other infectious diseases within the skilled nursing facility to uninfected patients . personnel and visitors . Special techniques will be followed when caring for patients with these diseases . Category of isolating required will be based on the epidemiological factors : Source of the infecting organism Node of transmission Susceptible host RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY: The Physician is responsible for the reporting of the reportable communicalbe disease to the local Health Officer as soon as there is a suspected case of reportable communicable disease . He orders the correct category of iscolation and informs the patient and family . Tracy Convalescent Hospital will also notivy the County Health Officer as outlined in the procedure for unusual occurances . THE REGISTERED NURSE OR LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSE: The nurse in charge is responsible for ensuring that isolation is initiated according to skilled nursing facility policy . All personnel are responsible for maintaining infection control procedures once initiated . THE DIRECTOR OF NURSES is responsible for following and maintaining records of all patients with infectious and contagious diseases . She supervised and teaches isolation procedures and techniques. She is the infection control committee ' s liaison , working with all departments , physician , patient , and family, concerning isolation policies and infection control problems . ALL PERSONNEL-physicians , nurses , housekeeping and technical staff are responsible for complying with isolation policies . Each member of the Health Care Team plays an integral part in the attempt to prevent the spread of infection and strict adherence to procedure shall be followed . HOUSEKEEPING: A sufficient staff is employed to keep the caility clean and safe at all times . The head house keeper is responsible to see that this is carried out and that all. employees in that department are using the necessary cleaners and disinfectatns supplied to do this work . LINEN : The facility has on hand at all tiems a sufficient quantity of linen for proper_ care of the patients . Said linen will be stored in a clean and a sanitary place . Diety linen will be handled in such a way as to prevent spread of infection . Any linen needing to be isolated will be put into disposable plastic ,bags and washed and cleaned separately from other linens . PEST CONTROL: The Terminex Exterminator Company wil do all pest control under contract on a regular basis and on call .
