M Z V
au IRS! M_
The purpose of this Plan is to define the policies,
procedures and protocols involved in our medical waste
management.
Collectively, the procedures and methods used to separate and
handle medical waste are guidelines which cover the special
precautions associated with the handling, storage,
collection, transportation and disposal of medical waste from
our healthcare facility. The guidelines have been developed
to minimize the risk of adverse environmental effects, to
public health, as well as occupational and public health
risks.
1 . ZQ=
All regulated medical waste (as defined by the
California Health and Safety Code, California Medical
Waste Management Act of 1990 and enforced by the San
Joaquin Public Health Services -Environmental Health
Division) will be disposed by our facility under the
supervision of Clark Austin, Chief Technician. The
medical waste generated by our facility consists of
Laboratory Wastes, Blood or Body Fluids, Sharps, and
Isolation Wastes.
2. EROLED-TIREZ
A. Bagging is to be done in a manner which will
reduce the hazard of injury or disease transmission.
Bags will be securely tied so as to prevent loss of
contents.
B. All needles, syringes, blades, broken glassware
contaminated with other medical waste including any
sharps waste capable of cutting or piercing, shall be
placed into a rigid puncture -resistant container which,
when sealed is leak resistant and cannot be easily
opened. Sharps container will be labelled "Sharps
Waste" or with the biohazardous symbol and the work
"Biohazard" and stored no more than 7 days when full.
C. The dialysis staff and janitors, who have collected
the regulated medical waste and subsequently bagged it,
will then place the bagged, regulated medical waste into
the leak -resistant, rodent proof, storage container with
a tight fitting lid, which is provided and maintained by
