Sharps include: <br />a. Needles, lancets, and sterile -connect wafers. <br />b. Broken glass items contaminated with biohazardous waste. <br />2. Sharps containers must be rigid, puncture -resistant, and, when sealed, is <br />leak resistant and cannot be reopened without great difficulty. <br />3. Sharps containers are labeled with the words "sharps waste" or with the <br />international biohazard symbol and the word `BIOHAZARD"5. <br />4. These sharps containers, when full, can be placed in containers with <br />biohazard bags6. <br />5. Medical waste containers should not be used for other purposes except <br />after decontamination and removal of medical waste labels. <br />6. Medical waste that is stored in an area prior to transfer to the designated <br />accumulation area shall be stored in an area that is locked or under direct <br />supervision. This does not apply to the rooms in which medical waste is <br />generated$. <br />1030.4 This section defines how medical waste is transported to Center of Operations <br />from a collection site generating less than 200 pounds of medical waste in any <br />one month of a 12 -month period. <br />1. Up to 35.2 pounds of medical waste is transported at any one time9. <br />2. The person transporting medical waste shall provide a form of log to the <br />receiving facility, Center of Operations. The receiving facility shall <br />maintain form or log for 2 years, containing all of the informationlo <br />a. Transporter's name <br />b. # of containers <br />C. Date of transport <br />d. Offsite location <br />e. Weight transported <br />1030.5 This section defines how medical waste is accumulated at Center of Operations. <br />1. The designated accumulation area is a locked area denying access to <br />unauthorized persons. <br />2. This area is marked with signage stating "CAUTION- BIOHAZARDOUS <br />WASTE STORAGE AREA—UNAUTHORIZED PERSONS KEEP <br />OUT" and "CUIDADO—ZONA DE RESIDUOS—BIOLOGICOS <br />PELIGROSOS—PROHIBIDA LE ENTRADA A PERSONAS NO <br />AUTORIZADAS" and is readily legible from a distance of at least 25 feet <br />during daylight 11 <br />3. Medical waste is accumulated no more than 7 daysl2 <br />1030.6 This section defines how the medical waste is removed from Center of <br />Operations. <br />1.
