DELTA BLOOD BANK'S MEDICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN <br /> 1.0 Purpose <br /> 1.1 This plan outlines the accumulation, storage and removal of medical <br /> generated by Delta Blood Bank. <br /> 1.1.1 This facility is located at 65 North Commerce Street Stockton, CA. <br /> 1.1.2 This facility, a large quantity generator and transfer station, generates <br /> approximately 1800 pounds of medical waste in one month. <br /> 1.1.3 Medical Waste generated consists of sharps waste and material <br /> contaminated with blood. Medical waste does not include paper towels, <br /> paper products, articles containing non fluid blood and other medical <br /> solid waste products commonly found in the facilities of medical waste <br /> generators'. <br /> 1.1.4 This facility is a holder of a limited quantity hauling exemption. <br /> 1.1.5 Medical waste generated is removed by a registered hazardous waste <br /> hauler service, Stericycle. <br /> 1.1.6 Delta Blood Bank is not a medical waste treatment facility. <br /> 2.0 This section describes how medical waste is segregated, contained and labeled at this <br /> facility. <br /> 2.1 Sharps devices, such as lancets or needles, are placed into approved containers <br /> immediately after use. These sharps containers, when full, are placed in rigid <br /> containers that are lined with two red biohazard bags. <br /> 2.2 When full, the biohazard bags are tied to prevent leakage or expulsion of <br /> contents during future storage, handling, or transport . <br /> 2.3 Other materials contaminated with blood are placed directly into the rigid <br /> containers line with red biohazard bags. <br /> 2.4 The rigid containers, a puncture-proof tote or containers provided by a <br /> biohazardous waste hauler, are labeled with the words"Biohazardous Waste"or <br /> with the international biohazard symbol and the word"Biohazard"on the lid and <br /> on the sides so as to be visible from any lateral direction 3.
