im <br />F+ <br />MEDICAL WASTE SEGREGATION, CONTAINMENT, LABELING, AND <br />COLLECTION PROCEDURES: <br />Medical waste is contained separately from other wastes at the point of generation. In non- <br />patient care areas, solid waste is not to be disposed of in medical waste containment devices. <br />When disinfecting patient treatment or examination areas employees will place all medical <br />wastes into RED biohazard bags labeled with the words, "Biohazard Waste." These bags are to <br />be impervious to moisture and have strength sufficient to preclude ripping, tearing, or bursting <br />under normal use and handling. All waste placed in a red bag is consi ered to be medical waste. <br />The bags will be closed with twist ties or rubber bands to prevent 41 age in the event the bag is <br />dumped upside down. <br />All sharps will be placed in a sharps container labeled with thwords"SHARPS WASTE" or <br />with the international biohazard symbol and the word Bi d.39 S;ps containers will be <br />rigid puncture proof containers that when sealed are leak xesistant and not able to be reopened <br />without great difficulty. Sharps containers shall be66nsidefed "full" whe' A- eyreach 2/3 <br />capacity or the manufacturer's full line. Lids on filled sharps containers must benapped closed, <br />taped, or otherwise sealed to prevent loss of conterftsprior to disposal. Medical vete will be <br />stored and transported in rigid containers to the lockedBiohaz dous Waste Storage Bin located <br />in East Parking lot in North West corner. Clinic and Labor- ory maintain keys to Biohazardous <br />Waste storage bin. Access is limited to contracted janrtoralervice, clinic staff, laboratory staff, <br />and contracted medical waste hauler. Tle_containers are labeled with the words "Biohazardous <br />This storage Niln is ,tube locked at all times. <br />to will be handled as medical waste. <br />Waste," and the international bic <br />Waste consisting of medical and <br />San Joaquin Co. Public Health Services does Of accept az y medical waste from any other <br />facility. <br />MEDICAL WASTE STORAGE METHODS <br />"CAUTION <br />4AZARDOUS WASTE STORAGE AREA <br />AUTHORIZED PERSONS KEEP OUT," <br />And in Spanish: <br />"CUIDADO — ZONA DE RESIDUOS BIOLOGICOS <br />PELIGROSOS <br />PROHIBIDA LA ENTRADA A PERSONAS NO AUTORIZADAS." <br />Biohazard bags and filled sharps containers shall not be stored in Biohazardous Waste Storage <br />Bin for more than seven (7) days. <br />SJPH Medical Waste Management Plan 6-22-2011 <br />
