A key will be placed on the assigned key group (P 12) in Central Control and the Biohazard Waste Contractor shall have a key. 9. The cart shall be cleaned after each use to prevent the spread of pathogens 10. The Biohazard Waste Contractor shall pickup the Biohazard Waste Containers from the disposal shed on Monday. The Biohazardous Waste shall be weighed and a weight slip shall be provided. D. Medical Waste Storage Methods Rev. 07/08 All medical waste shall be collected and stored in the Biohazardous Waste Storage Area until transported by the Biohazardous Waste Contractor. All biohazardous waste shall be stored, handled or transported in containers that are leak resistant, have tight fitting covers and are kept clean and in good repair. This area shall be marked with warning signs. The wording of the warning shall say in English "CAUTION - BIOHAZARDOUS WASTE STORAGE AREA- UNAUTHORIZED PERSONS KEEP OUT" and in Spanish "CUIDADO ZONA DE RESIDUOS BIOLOGICOS PELIGROSOS PROHIBDA LA ENTRADA A PERSONAS NO AUTORIZADAS". The Biohazardous_waste bags and filled sharps containers shall not be stored for more than 7 days at a temperature above 32 degrees Fahrenheit. This 7 -day period begins when any waste has been placed in the container. All reusable rigid containers that are used for accumulation, transportation and storage of medical waste shall be washed and decontaminated after a maximum of 7 days or less if visible soiled. The approved method for decontamination is manual agitation to remove visible soil using an approved solution. The solution shall be allowed to cover the surface for a minimum of 3 minutes. The amount of solution mixed shall be no more than may be used at any one time. Pharmaceutical waste products will be placed in a white container with blue top, clearly labeled with the words "INCINERATION ONLY" on the lid and on the sides, which is obtained from DVI's medical waste hauler. The janitorial services will pick-up the containers and transport them to the Biohazardous Waste Storage Area until transported by the medical waste hauler. The medical waste hauler will ensure pick-up not to exceed ninety (90) days. E. Emergency Action Plan While it is highly unlikely that the Biohazards Waste Contractor would experience a shutdown of operations, contingencies include retention of medical waste for not more than 7 days from point of generation above 32 degrees Fahrenheit or after 7 -day use of an alternate Biohazardous Waste Contractor. Another contingency for less well defined emergency situations would be to contact the Department of Health Services, Medical Waste Program at (916) 327-6904 for guidance. F.
