Approval and Review <br />This procedure shall be reviewed and updated annually in the month of April by the Quality Management <br />Committee (Qmc), Medical Sub,commi4ee and approved through the QMC process, The 'Health Care <br />Manager (HCM) will review/approve the Local operating Procedure (LOP) and forward to the Local <br />Governing Body for approval and signature. <br />V, , &WaRlaby <br />Rev. 07/08 <br />The health Cue Manager, David J. Snell, M.D., MBA, has the overall responsibility. <br />Vi. Methods <br />A. Types of Medical Waste Generated: <br />1. Laboratory Wastes: Specimens or pathological and microbiological waste containing <br />blood or other infected materials. <br />1 <br />2. Blood or Body Fluids: I Liquid blood elements or other regulated body fluids, or articles <br />contaminated with blood or body fluids. <br />31 Sharps: Syringes, needles, blades, broken glass, microscope slides. <br />4. Surgical Specimens: Human tissues removed surgically or by autopsy. <br />1 <br />5. Isolation Waste' Waste contaminated with excretion exudates, or secretions from <br />humans who are isolated due to highly communicable diseases. <br />Rev, 07/08 6. Pharmaceutical Wastes. Unidentifiable loose pills, partially used and empty "unit of use' <br />items (inhalers, creams/ointments, eye drops, ate.). Partially used injectables. <br />Deuel Vocational Institution (DVI) is registered as a Large Quantity Generator., The estimated monthly <br />amount of Medical Waste generated is approximately 600 pounds. The estimated monthly amount of <br />Pharmaceutical Waste generated is approximately 10 gallons. <br />
