The types of regulated medical waste generated at this plant are paper, plastic,
cloth materials, and sharps that are potentially contaminated with liquid blood
and/or other body fluids.
2. The estimated monthly pounds generated by this facility are 1,600 pounds.
3. SRI's medical waste handling procedure is summarized below:
a.) SEGREGATION, CONTAINMENT, PACKAGING, LABELING AND
COLLECTION:
Soiled linen is received from hospitals inside plastic bags stored and
transported in SRI's transport carts, which were designed specifically for the
containment of these materials. The outside of the transport carts bear required
biohazardous labeling. Receipt, collection, and movement of the soiled
materials is restricted to designated areas at SRI by trained employees garbed
in personal protective equipment. The medical waste received is sorted from
our reusable linens and instruments by trained personnel, and placed into
properly labeled containers. Filled containers of medical waste are
appropriately confined, and removed from the facility on a weekly basis by an
authorized contractor.
b.) STORAGE CONDITIONS:
Medical waste placed into heavy mil plastic bags and stored inside 55 gallon
red biohazardous containers. The secured red containers of medical waste are
stored no longer than one week at controlled temperature conditions.
c.) ONSITE TREATMENT
SRI reprocesses contaminated linens, stainless ware, and medical instruments
for use by hospitals and other licensed medical institutions. These medical
devices are cleaned and sterilized using validated methods in compliance with
all applicable federal and/or state regulations or known industry standards.
SRI does not handle onsite treatment and disposal of medical waste.
