Once"full", the biohazardous waste bag must be sealed using an overhand knot <br /> aospecified bythe Department ofTransportation (DOT). <br /> e. The rigid container must becovered with aheavy plastic lid. <br /> 2. Sharps waste (contaminated needles, blades, broken glass, ebc.): <br /> a. Shall be sealed in |aok nemiabant, ri0id, puncture-resistant containers, <br /> b. Containers shall baclosed tightly 0mpreclude loss of contents. <br /> n. VWUbedisposed ofwhen 3/4full. <br /> d. All spillage orinjury from handling medical wastes will be reported by means of the <br /> Unusual Incident Reporting system and EmployeeAccident Investigation Reports. <br /> STORAGE AND TRANSPORTATION: <br /> 1. Medical Waste will be transported from the clinical areas to the locked storage <br /> containers or designated area in a Biohazard Waste Container via the most direct <br /> route that minimizes exposure to paUenta, staff visitors and the community. A <br /> handcart orwheeled transport container will beused totransport the wos(e. <br /> 3. All medical waste will bedisposed ofwithin seven (7) days and will bakept ina <br /> locked storage container or designated area before transport to a medical waste <br /> treatment facility (8Odays |fstored atorbelow zero degrees C). <br />
