Protective Clothing <br /> 1) Gloves: Latex gloves are usually preferred by <br /> health care workers because of their elasticity. <br /> a. The use of disposable gloves is indicated for <br /> patient contact or procedures in which body <br /> fluids will be handled . Gloves must always be <br /> worn during any procedure in which contact <br /> with blood is possible . These procedures <br /> would include : <br /> 1 . Venipuncture <br /> 2 . Intramuscular, intradermal , or <br /> subcutaneous injection treatments to open <br /> wounds or lesions <br /> 3 . Any surgical entry into tissues, cavities <br /> or organs <br /> 4. Any examination that enters any orifice <br /> of the body <br /> 5 . Any laboratory procedure involving blood, <br /> body fluids, or tissues <br /> 6 . Any handling of soiled linen or <br /> contaminated waste . <br /> 2 ) Gowns or Aprons : <br /> a . Gowns or aprons should be worn when a <br /> procedure is likely to generate splashes of <br /> blood or body fluids or when contact with <br /> blood or body fluids is possible with the <br /> employee ' s skin or clothing . In the event of <br /> anticipated exposure to LARGE amounts of blood <br /> or body fluids , such as in spills , waterproof <br /> gowns should be worn. <br /> 3 ) Masks, Goggles or Eye Protectors <br /> a.
