r
(blood, cultures and swabs) and sharp items such
as needles and glass. The hospital , in addition
to the above items will generate body parts as
well as chemotherapy waste.
All hazardous waste, other than chemotherapy and
body parts, can be sterilized then compacted and
properly stored prior to shipment. Body parts
will be handled through pathology and a local
mortuary. Chemotherapy waste is to be picked up
by an approved contracting firm for proper
disposal . Three such firms operate in the
Stockton area. Mr. Joe Walker of the City Public
Works Department has indicated the existing land
fill site has capacity and the ability to accept
waste as long as City health requirements are
satisfied.
6. Water Supply
According to figures supplied by Kaiser Perman-
ente, the 180 doctor MOB and 200 bed hospital can
be expected to use 52,200 gallons of water daily.
The peak flow demand is estimated at 1475 gallons
per minute.
Water is supplied to the site by the City of
Stockton . The transmissions facilities are in
place according to Mr . Duane Cox of the City
Municipal Utilities Department and are adequate to
supply the projected daily and peak requirements.
In response to the existing ground water overdraft
problem, the City will provide treated surface
supply through a transmission line in cooperation
with the Stockton East Water District. This
surface supply will alleviate part of the existing
groundwater overdraft problem and supplement
Stockton 's nortn area.
7. Liquid Waste
For the MOB and hospital , liquid waste will be
essentially equal to water use, or an estimated
52 , 000 gallons per day. The City of Stockton
operates a Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility.
The Plant ' s capacity was designed to serve the
metropolitan area.
Kaiser will be required to construct the internal
sanitary sewer system. Plans and specifications
will be subject to City Public Works Department
approval. Typically, specifications incorporate
provisions to mitigate short term noise and dust
impacts during construction.
r
