1.0 Introduction <br /> Bloodbome pathogens are disease-producing micro-organisms that maybe present in <br /> human blood and other body fluids. These pathogens include, but are not limited to AIDS <br /> (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) caused by HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) <br /> and HBV (Hepatitis B Virus.) <br /> Life Line Screening is committed to providing a safe work environment for our entire staff. In <br /> pursuit of this endeavor, the following Exposure Control Plan (ECP) has been established to <br /> eliminate or minimize occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens in accordance with the <br /> OSHA Bloodbome Pathogens Standard, Title 29 Code of Federal Regulations 1910.1030. <br /> The objectives of this plan are: <br /> ■ To protect our employees from the health hazards associated with bloodborne <br /> pathogens. <br /> ■ To provide appropriate treatment and counseling should an employee be exposed to <br /> bloodbome pathogens. <br /> 2.0 Program Administration <br /> 2.1 The Director of Clinical Operations and Laboratory Manager are jointly responsible for <br /> the implementation of the ECP. These duties include: <br /> ■ Reviewing, maintaining and updating the written ECP at least annually and <br /> whenever necessary, to include new or modified tasks and procedures. <br /> ■ Ensuring that all medical actions required are performed and that appropriate <br /> medical records are maintained. <br /> ■ Employee training, documentation of training, and making the written ECP <br /> available to employees, OSHA and NIOSH representatives. <br /> ■ Maintaining and providing all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE), <br /> engineering controls, labels, and biohazard containers required by the <br /> standard. <br /> ■ Ensuring that adequate supplies of the aforementioned equipment are available <br /> at all Life Line Screening worksites and permanent facilities. <br /> ■ Ensuring those employees who are reasonably anticipated to have contact <br /> with, or exposure to, blood or other potentially infected materials comply with <br /> the procedures and work practices outlined in Life Line Screening's Exposure <br /> Control Plan. <br /> 2.2 All Employees are responsible for: <br /> ■ Complying with Life Line Screening's ECP. <br /> ® Identifying hazards and taking proper action to prevent exposure to bloodborne <br /> pathogens. <br /> ■ Notifying their Team Manager(field teams) immediately when a potential <br /> exposure to a bloodborne pathogen is identified. <br /> Page 1 of 16 <br />
