3.0 Employee Exposure Determination <br /> Life Line Screening has evaluated the work tasks associated with our staff to determine <br /> which tasks could result in exposure to bloodbo a pathogens. Life Line Screening has <br /> adopted the following categorical distinctions to determine the level of potential exposure for <br /> its employees: <br /> 3.1 Category 1, Tasks that involve frequent exposure to blood or other body fluids and is <br /> part of the daily job requirement. Category] includes all field team members conducting <br /> blood tests. Affected duties include collecting of blood samples into capillary tubes, <br /> cleaning up of work site upon completion of blood tests and equipment/site <br /> decontamination. <br /> ■ Ultrasound Technicians <br /> ■ Medical Technicians <br /> 3.2 Category It, Tasks that involve some exposure to blood or other body fluids, but is not <br /> part of the daily job requirement. Category II includes the Clinical Operations <br /> department and any manager supervising the field team members in Category I. <br /> Affected duties include field site visits and training. <br /> ■ Clinical Operations Dept. — Director, Clinical Managers, Laboratory Manager, <br /> Laboratory Program Coordinator <br /> ■ General Managers <br /> ■ Director of Operations <br /> 4.0 Methods of Implementation Control <br /> 4.1 Universal Precautions: Universal precautions will be observed by all Life Line <br /> Screening field employees. This means all blood and other body fluids are assumed <br /> to be infectious regardless of the perceived status of the source individual. <br /> 4.2 Exposure Control Plan (ECP): Employees covered by the Bloodborne Pathogens <br /> Standard will receive an explanation of this ECP during their initial training session. <br /> All employees will be notified if there are changes to this ECP. Refresher training will <br /> occur as needed. The ECP is posted on the company intranet for all employees to <br /> access. In addition, each field team will have a copy in their Standard Operating <br /> Procedures manual. <br /> 4.3 Work Practice Controls <br /> ■ No eating, drinking, smoking, applying cosmetics or lip balm, and handling <br /> contact lenses when blood or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM) <br /> are present. <br /> ■ No food or drink shall be kept in areas (such as on table tops) where blood <br /> or OPIM is present. <br /> ® All surfaces contaminated with blood will be cleaned with cavicide surface <br /> disinfectant. <br /> Page 2 of 16 <br />
