8.4 Any refrigerator that stores potentially infectious material such Quality control material <br /> will have a biohazard label on it. <br /> 8.5 Food or drink may not be stored on-any refrigerator that is used to store potentially <br /> infectious material. <br /> 9.0 Sharps Containers <br /> 9.1 Regulated sharps containers will be used to dispose of biohazard medical wastes. <br /> Sharps containers will be closable, puncture-resistant, appropriately labeled or color <br /> coded, and leak-proof on the sides and bottom. <br /> 9.2 Each team will maintain a copy of Life LineScreening's LIMITED QUNATITY <br /> HAULING EXEMPTION (LQHE) for transporting biohazardous waste. <br /> 9.3 Sharps containers should be easily accessible and located as close as possible to the <br /> blood work station. They must be kept upright throughout use, replaced routinely, <br /> closed when moved, and not allowed to overfill. <br /> 9.4 Always use mechanical means (broom and dustpan provided) to pick up broken <br /> sharps. Never pick up with hands even if gloves are wom. <br /> 9.5 Notify the Team Manager when the container is 3/full. The Team Manager will make <br /> the necessary arrangements to have the waste material properly disposed of and a <br /> replacement sharps container in place. <br /> 9.6 The following biohazard medical wastes should be disposed of in the sharps <br /> containers: <br /> ■ Lancets <br /> ■ Capillary tubes and plungers <br /> ■ Test cassettes <br /> ■ Pipette tips <br /> ■ Soft goods (gloves, gauze, towels) that are saturated with blood or OPIM <br /> 10.0 Labeling rA <br /> 10.1 This universal symbol is used to identify material or objects <br /> contaminated with human blood or body fluids. When this symbol is <br /> identified, follow all Universal Precautions as outlined in this ECP. lov <br /> 10.2 The above Labeling method will be used in the field and at our permanent facilities. <br /> 10.3 Field employees should notify their Team Manager if they discover an unlabeled <br /> regulated biohazard container. <br /> 11.0 Recordkeeping <br /> 11.1 Medical Records are maintained for each employee with occupational exposure in <br /> accordance with 29 CFR 1910.1020. <br /> ■ Human Resources are responsible for maintenance of the required medical records <br /> and assuring that they are kept at the Main Office under the supervision of the Director <br /> of Clinical Operations. <br /> ■ In addition to the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.1020, the medical record will include: <br /> o The name and social security number of the employee. <br /> Page 6 of 16 <br />
