NSG <br />0 <br />Document Number: 909 R 5003 <br />Procedure Rev: 12 Date: 1/22/13 <br />EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROCEDURES <br />Hazardous Chemical Emergency Response <br />Guidelines <br />Material Spill/Release Notification Criteria <br />All significant releases or potential releases of a hazardous material, including oil, <br />require emergency notification to governmental agencies. A release is defined as any <br />spilling, leaking, pumping, pouring, emitting, emptying, discharging, injecting, escaping, <br />leaching, dumping, or disposing into the environment, unless permitted or authorized <br />by a regulatory agency. Notification should be made by telephone. <br />California Requirements: Immediately report any release or threatened release of <br />hazardous materials. <br />What information is required? <br />• Identity of caller <br />• Location, date, and time of spill or release <br />• Substance and quantity involved <br />• Chemical name (if known) <br />• Description of what happened <br />Federal Requirements: Notification required for all releases that equal or exceed <br />federal reporting quantities. <br />What information is required? <br />• Medium or media impacted by the release <br />• Time and duration of the release <br />• Proper precautions to take <br />• Known or anticipated health risks <br />• Name and phone number for more information <br />Written follow up reports may be necessary.
