In certain cases, additional guidelines specific to a
hazardous material have been developed and follow this section. A hazardous
incident may either be an actual release and/or a threatened release.
An actual hazardous incident may include the release of a gas such as chlorine, spills
of petroleum products from equipment malfunctions, drums and/or bulk storage
containers, and spills of other hazardous chemicals (solvents, acids).
When a container's integrity is in jeopardy the potential exists that a release of the
chemical might occur, this is referred to as a threatened release incident. It is difficult
to determine whether a threatened release might occur, however adequate
precautions must be taken to minimize risk to employees and/or Contractors and the
environment.
H:\profileWy Documents\500 E. louise ave (CIA LOF)\9-25-13\909R5003 Emergency Response Procedures.doc
Page 21 of 67
Paper Copies are Not Controlled unless stamped in RED "Controlled Document".
