The facility may opt to manage the
release of a small quantity of a hazardous chemical or waste. The EHS / BATCH /
FURNACE AND TECHNICAL Manager are responsible for responding to such
incidents and/or directing a response.
In the case of the release of an acutely hazardous material, welding gases, or other
material deemed too large or dangerous for facility personnel to handle, the incident
commander will instruct security to call the Lathrop -Manteca Fire District. The fire
department is the first responder in such cases. Working with plant personnel, the
fire department may request assistance from the San Joaquin County OES or a
private clean-up firm.
Depending upon the nature of the emergency, assistance may be required from the
Lathrop Police and San Joaquin County Sheriff. The facility's close proximity to 1-5
may require the California Highway Patrol to be notified as well.
In the event that injuries occur during an emergency, the fire department's
paramedics will be responsible for determining what area hospitals will be used. San
Joaquin General Hospital (French Camp) and Doctor's Hospital (Manteca) are
approximately the same distance from the facility.
Post -Emergency Guidelines
The following guidelines should be observed following any emergency, especially
those involving the release of a hazardous chemical.
Handling of Recovered Waste
• any type of waste resulting from the release or clean-up of a hazardous chemical
should be handled according to the appropriate regulations.
• if used, outside contractors are responsible for securing any recovered waste in
appropriate container(s).
