C
Document Number: 909 R 5003
Rev: 12 Date: 1/22/13
EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROCEDURES
2. Furnace — The primary concerns in the Furnace Department are the furnaces
themselves. When a power failure occurs, the furnace roof -lift should enable on
its own. If the roof -lift did not enable, then the roof of the furnace should be
raised manually. Once the roof is up, the furnace employees should make sure
that the rolls of the furnace are still turning and that there is no more glass being
fed into the furnace. Since the power is out, and the generator is used for
emergency lighting and to keep the furnace rolls turning, power to the press rolls
will likely be lost. Furnace employees should prepare the push -sticks to begin
pushing glass out of the furnace. GLASS SHOULD NOT BE LEFT TO PILE UP
IN THE FURNACE! Once the furnace has been emptied, furnace employees
should await the word of the Team Leaders before starting the line once the
power has been restored.
3. Maintenance — The Maintenance Department has numerous duties in the event
of a power failure. One of the first priorities is to check the generator to make
sure that it is running properly. Meanwhile, the origin of the power outage should
be determined. Once the origin of the power outage has been found,
Maintenance should contact the necessary people to begin the power restoration
process. After the power has been turned back on, Maintenance personnel are
to manually restart the compressors to get the R.O. system functioning again.
When this process is complete, Maintenance is to contact the Team Leaders,
who will in turn contact the operators to begin the start-up process.
To facilitate the orderly and proper response to a fire or related incident within the
facility and to ensure that the safety and health of employees and/or Contractors is
not compromised.
OBJECTIVES
• To ensure a safe and proper response to an incident
H:\profile\My Documents\500 E. louise ave (CIA LOF)\9-25-13\909R5003 Emergency Response Procedures.doc
Page 45 of 67
Paper Copies are Not Controlled unless stamped in RED "Controlled Document'.
