JOHNS-MAWILLE MANUFACTURING. INCORPORATED -2-
JOHNS-MANVILLE ASBESTOS/CEMENT PIPE CORPORATION
FORMOSA PLASTICS. USA
SURFACE IMPOUNDMENTS AND UNCLASSIFIED LANDFILLS
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
will also be monitored. If it is found that the channel sediments are causing a problem, then
Phase III of the drainage plan will be implemented.
In Phase III. the portion of the channel that runs through the Johns-Manville property would
be replaced by a stormwater pipe. The pipe would isolate the stormwater flows from
contaminated sediments that may be present in the channel. If sediments downstream from
Johns-Manville discharge point exceed the water quality goal, then remediation of
downstream sediments may be required. Johns-Manville may decide to forgo the phased
approach, proceed directly to install a stormwater pipe to replace the channel.
An Engineering Feasibility and Corrective Action Program, which will detail the proposed
approach, is due on 1 February 1994. Implementation of corrective action is scheduled for
the summer of 1994.
RAE(1/27/94)
