OWN KLEINFELDER
1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The City of Lodi Landfill received waste composed of lawn trimmings, leaves, tree stumps,
and construction debris (concrete, asphalt, .and rock) from approximately 1935 to 1955.
The site is approximately 3.7 acres in size and currently appears to contain refuse mixed
with soil to a maximum depth of about 20 feet.
Based on the small size of the site and.the high concentration of sandy soil mixed with the
refuse (up to 90% in places), it appears that the site contains less than 50,000 cubic yards.of
refuse. Therefore, preliminary-assessment activities are proposed fo assess the potential of
hazardous wastes leaking from`the landfill. If:no evidence of.hazardous waste in or under
the landfill is found in the preliminary assessment,.this site may be eligible for deletion
from the list of landfills required to.perform Solid Waste Assessment Tests(SWATS) under
the provisions of Section 13273 of the California Water Quality Act.
The proposed assessment activities include collecting and analyzing samples of the waste,
the soil/waste interface, and the vadose zone below the landfill: collecting and analyzing a
ground water sample from under the landfill: and collecting and analyzingsurface water
samples from the Mokolumne River upstream and downstream of the landfill. The-results
of this investigation will be presented to the Regional Water Quality Control Board
(RWQCB) in a Report of Findings.
1.37-88-1663 1
