Lodi City Landfill November 16,2011
North of Awani Drive,Lodi,California Project No. 104690061
8.3. Groundwater
Based on review of boring logs prepared by previous consultants, soils and wastes at the
Lodi City Landfill(east of the railroad tracks) are saturated at depths of 7 to 27 feet bgs and
groundwater was encountered at depths of 10 to 30 feet bgs (Foundations Engineers, 1982).
Kleinfelder (1988) indicated that at approximately 150 feet south of the Mokelumne River,
at the general center of the landfill site, groundwater was present at an approximate depth of
19.5 feet bgs(monitoring well MW 1)(Figure 3 and Appendix A).
Based on review of the EIR(Kreines & Kreines, 1992), west of the railroad tracks, saturated
sediments were encountered at approximately 39 feet bgs in all the boring drilled at the site.
They reported that the uppermost aquifer is present at a depth of between 40 and 55 feet below
ground surface, depending on seasonal variations and that the groundwater flow direction ap-
pears to be to the west-southwest.
Based on information from the site characterization work plan and remediation feasibility
study for LNC site at 110 East Turner Road, prepared by Stephen G Muir Consulting Ge-
ologist & Geophysicist (Muir, 2007), groundwater within the City of Lodi area occurs
primarily within a "leaky-aquifer system of Younger and Older Quaternary Alluvium and
within the underlying Turlock Lake, and the Laguna Formations (Piper and others, 1931;
Page, 1986)."Their report indicated that groundwater level data from the City of Lodi water
supply wells and groundwater monitoring wells indicate that the first groundwater-bearing
zone occurs at a depth of about 50 feet bgs below the LNC site and ranges from about 45 to
55 feet bgs beneath the northern portion of Lodi.
It is expected that depth to groundwater will be relatively shallow, closest to the Mokelumne River.
s
104690061 R finsl.doc 16 JV/J7 o/wore
