Page 17 FE 382- 063-00
Enqineered Filly The on-site soils are predominantly silty
sands intermixed with debris such as trash , glass , etc. These
soils will not be suitable for use as engineered fill . Import
fill soil should be nonexpansive granular material and , prior to
' use , should be approved by the Soils Engineer. ;
Fill soil should be placed in lifts approximately 6 inches
thick , moisture- conditioned as necessary , and compacted to
achieve a dry density of at least 95 percent of the maximum dry
density As determined by ASTM Test Method D1557-78. Additional
lifts should not be placed if the previous lift did n.ot meet the
required dry density or if soil conditions are not stable.
Utility Trench Backfill : Utility trench backfill placed in
_ v r ad j ae en t to building areas and paved exterior slabs should be
>: compacted to at least 95 percent relative compaction based on
ASTM Test Method D1557- 78 . When utility trench backfills are
deemed nonstru.ctural backfills as determined by the Soils
Engineer , the surface 2 feet of fill should be compacted to -at
least 95 percent relative compaction, and fill material below the
surface. 2 feet should be compacted to 90 percent relative
compaction. The. Contractor should use appropriate equipment and
methods to avoid damage to the. utilities and/or structures during
placement and compaction of the backfill material.
The Found,don En,._neeers, Inc.
