Page 18 FE 382-063-00 <br /> Slooe Protection: The slopes bordering the Mokelumne River <br /> on this project were covered with thick vegetation and appeared <br /> stable . if this vegetation is removed and the slopes left <br /> unprotected, erosion may occur. Therefore , measures should be <br /> taken to protect these slopes from the potential erosion. Such ; <br /> measures can include rip - rap , bulk heading , or planting with <br /> suitable grasses or plants. <br /> It the existing. slopes are altered during earthwork <br /> operations, the stability of these slopes should be analyzed. <br /> Potential Subsurface Gas Generation: The debris laden fill <br /> W ill generate unknown quantities of potentially explosive gases , <br /> including methane gas, as the existing organic matter continues <br /> to decompose . The northern portion of the site consists <br /> principally of organic materi.al in the form of leaves . However , <br /> this portion of the site has been identified as unsuitable for <br /> receiving building foundations . The remainder of the site, based <br /> on ou.r test results , consists of a lesser quantity of organic <br /> matter. <br /> ;i Since the quantity of potentially explosive gas generation <br /> was not evaluated , we suggest that an additional study be <br /> s conducted , if the proposed project is deemed feasible, for the <br /> design and implementation of field gas barriers and control <br /> devices .
