EVALUATION OF THE AUSTIN ROAD LANDFILL SITE
NO. 39 -AA -001
The City and the contract operator of the City's Austin Road
Landfill, John Giambastiani and Son, have taken steps to correct
the deficiencies noted in Item IA, "Non -Compliance Criterion"
of the SWMB evaluation report of June 18, 1981. The City
respectfully requests a re-evaluation of said Item IA at the
early convenience of the SB.
Prior.,to the inspVction by Mr. McGee on June 18, 1981, the
City's contract operator, for his convenience, borrowed daily
cover material from proximate completed fill areas, rather than
from designated borrow areas on the landfill site. This resulted
in the exposure of previously covered refuse. Such practice was
discontinued on June 18, 1981.
Continued full compliance should be assured by the exercise of
any or all of the following options in the current operations:
1. Approximately 3,000 cubic yards of replacement cover has been
placed in the completed fill area where the periodic cover
was borrowed.
2. Approximately 4,000 cubic yards of cover material has been
stock piled adjacent to the area where landfill operations
will be conducted during the coming winter months.
3. City will continue to import suitable cover material from
off-site locations as and when opportunities occur in con-
junction with public and private construction and
maintenance work.
