V. Alternatives to the Project
Cultural Resources
Any potential cultural resources on either the CYA or Brocchini parcel could still be disturbed.
Vegetation and Wildlife
Under this alternative, the biological resources on the CYA and Brocchini parcel would be
impacted, as with the project. Because the active fill area would not cover the Brocchini parcel,
impacts to the Swainson's Hawk may be lessened.
Airuality
Traffic-related air quality impacts also would be expected to increase sooner than with the
project.
N i4
o e
Traffic-related noise levels would also increase along the haul routes used to take the waste to
Foothill Landfill when the Austin Road Landfill closes.
Energy
Energy consumption also would increase sooner than with the project because waste would be
hauled further distances sooner than with the project.
Geology. Soils,and Seismicity
The Current-Footprint-with-Increased-Elevation-and-Creek-Realignment-South Alternative
would expand vertically on the existing permitted landfill. Impacts to slope stability or other
geologic hazards would remain, but to a lesser extent than the project. Seismic hazards would be
limited to current hazards;few people would be exposed to these hazards due to the limited use
of the site.
Hydrology.Geohydrology.and Water Quality_
As with the project, this alternative would remove the potential for surface or ground water
degradation in the project area because the creek would be realigned to the south of the existing
V.1$
