II. Project Description
The landfill operator is responsible for providing overall site security during normal working
hours.
LANDFILL CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE
The schedule in Table II.1 is based on the site life projections in Appendix A.
LANDFILL OPERATIONS
Waste Acceptance
The following wastes are prohibited from the landfill.
TABLE 11.1: CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE
Construction Year Closure Year
PHASE I 1997 2001
PHASE II 2001 2007
PHASE III 2007 2013
PHASE IV 2013 2024
PHASE V 2024 2032
PHASE VI 2032 2045
SOURCE: R. W. Beck and Associates,Preliminary Draft of the Final Design Study Report for
the.Austin Road Landfill Expansion, November 1992.
Sewage Sludge
Approximately 13,000 tons per year of sewage sludge is generated by the City Regional
Wastewater Control Facility. The sludge is dried to a minimum 50 percent solids and stockpiled
at the generating facility for future agricultural land application. The City's Source Reduction
and Recycling Element(ERRE)proposes that a sewage sludge composting program be
developed in the mid-term planning period at a site to be determined. Therefore, sewage sludge
is not accepted at the Austin Road Landfill.
II.18
