II. Project Description
Hazardous Waste
The disposal of hazardous waste is not allowed at the Austin Road Landfill. Also prohibited is
the disposal of wastes which have the potential to reduce or impair the integrity of containment
structures.
Inert Solids
Inert solids,including demolition debris,rock,concrete and brick are usually collected by local
recycling companies. A small quantity of inert solids may be accepted from time to time to be
used as an all-weather road base.
Other Wastes
In addition to the above wastes,the Austin Road Landfill does not accept for disposal the
following:
• chemicals or chemical sludges which are toxic,corrosive,an irritant,or a strong sensitizer;
• drugs;
• radioactive wastes;
• flammable or explosive wastes;
• free liquids, including liquid residues in containers or paint cans;
• oil,batteries or fuel wastes;
• pesticides or insecticides(properly neutralized and rinsed containers are allowed);
• bag house or air scrubber wastes;
• tank cleaning sludges or sediments;or
• contaminated soil or sand.
White Goods
White goods are large appliances such as washers,dryers.and refrigerators,that have entered the
solid waste stream. White goods have special handling requirements because of their size and
weight and because they may contain polychlorinated biphenyls s)in electrical capacitors
and lubricating oils and chlorofluorocarbons(CFCs)in cooling and refrigeration units. White
goods are no longer accepted at the Austin Road Landfill.
11.21
