Projections of waste generation, diversion, transformation and disposal are from the Austin Road Landfill Preliminary
Design Study Report(R.W. Beck and Associates, 1992). Includes effects of SRRE analysis.
2. Com in-place density of refuse is assumed to be 1200 lbstcy.
3. The values in this table were generated from percentages and,as such, show a higher level of precision than can be
truly expected Rounding off to the nearest 100 or 1,000 would give a more realistic value for planning purposes.
Table 1-2 shows that, based on projected waste disposal volumes, the expansion to the Austin
Road Landfill will increase the service life by approximately 48 years. Using the assumption that
the existing landfill will reach capacity and closure In 1997 (and therefore that use of Phase I will
begin in 1997/1998), then final closure of the last porion of the landfill (Phase VI) is projected to
occur in about 2045.
1.3 LINER AND LEACHATE COLLECTION SYSTEM
1.3.1 Introduction
The proposed liner system will provide containment of the leachate generated within both the
horizontal and vertical expansions of the landfill. The conceptual design utilizes a composite liner
system. The leachate collection system provides for removal of leachate from the landfill and
f consists of a drainage layer which extends over the liner, a system of collection trenches and
pipes, and leachate collection sumps.
A leak detection trench system is provided under the landfill collection trenches in the horizontal
j expansion areas. This system would function as a secondary collection system and for landfill
vadose monitoring.
R.W.Beck and tee
City of Stockton 1611 002
