Foothill Sanitary Landfill — Module 1 December 2003
County of San Joaquin Job No 031602 00 02
5.3.2.3 Field Seaming
e Seam Layout
Vector's CQA Monitor assigned and documented that the seam numbering system was
compatible with the panel numbering system. The seam numbering system was
assigned by using both panel numbers separated with a dash as in 3/4 (seam of panel
3 and panel 4).
e Seaming Equipment and Products
Vector's CQA Monitors observed that the seaming equipment used by the
subcontractor were in accordance with the Technical Specifications and that the
extrudate (welding rod) used was compatible with the geomembrane material and was
comprised of the same resin as the geomembrane.
The HDPE geomembrane panels were seamed using dual hot wedge and extrusion
welding techniques by the liner crews. The majority of seams were joined using double
is wedge welders, with difficult geometry and repairs made using extrusion welders.
Vector's CQA Monitor observed the seaming activities and observed for proper panel
overlap, cleanness of the seams, grinding where required, and observed the speed and
weld temperatures of the equipment used. Documentation of this activity was recorded
on a geomembrane seaming log. These field seaming logs recorded information on the
seam number, date, time, welding machine, technician, machine temperature, and wind
condition and are presented within Appendix J.
e Seam Preparation
Vector's CQA Monitors observed that the preparation of the seams was in general
conformance with the Technical Specifications and that the seam area was clean and
free of moisture, debris and foreign materials prior to seaming.
Vector Engineering, Inc. • 143E Spring Hill Drive • Grass Valley, CA 95945 • (530) 272-2448
29
