Foothill Sanitary Landfill — Module 1
of San
December 2003
Job No. 031602.00.02
® Weather Conditions for Seaming
Vector's CQA Monitor(s) verified and documented that the weather conditions for
seaming were within the Technical Specifications and manufacturer's guidelines.
• Trial Seams
Prior to any seaming activities, at the beginning of each day, and at a minimum of once
during the middle of the shift, a trial seam (start-up trial weld test) was prepared for
each of the wedge and extrusion welders used for that shift. The seaming technicians
prepared a test specimen and marked the sample with the machine number, machine
temperature, date, time and their name.
The shear and peel tests were performed in the field in accordance with ASTM D-6392.
If the start-up weld sample failed to meet the project specifications, the welding
technician and supervisor were notified and advised to take corrective action or put that
machine out of service. Documentation of the trial welds were prepared by Vector and
included the date, time, temperature, machine number, technician, and results of the
shear and peel testing. The geomembrane start-up trial weld logs are presented within
Appendix J.
• Nondestructive Seam Continuity Testing
After seaming of the panels was completed, the Contractor's QC technician and
Vector's CQA Monitor inspected the seams and panels for defects. Any defective
seams or tears, holes, non -dispersed resin beads or other defects were marked by the
QC technician for repairs. Seam continuity testing was conducted by the QC technician
using the air pressure method for double wedge welded seams and the vacuum box for
extruded seams.
Vector's CQA Monitor observed the nondestructive seam continuity testing and repairs
performed by D & E. Vector observed the air pressure and vacuum box testing to
ensure that the seams were satisfactory. During the air pressure testing, Vector's CQA
Monitor observed the pressure and pressure drop after puncturing one side of the air
Vector Engineering, Inc. - 143E Spring Hill Drive • Grass Valley, CA 95945 • (530) 272-2448
30
