i ANNUAL SUMMARY
MONITORING
i
Groundwater
General Water Quality Parameters
An evaluation of the second semester 2003 groundwater monitoring data shows that all
constituents were within interwell tolerance limits except for Chloride and Sulfate concentrations
in LW-1 and Chloride and Nitrate concentrations in MW-3. Three of the four exceedences were
slightly higher than the concentration limits.
For the first semester the concentration limit of Chloride was exceeded in well LW-1. The
i concentration limit of Nitrate was exceeded in wells MW-2 and MW-3. Chloride and Nitrate
concentrations will be closely monitored. Proposed site improvements, including improving cover
and drainage of the shallow refuse lift at the north-west edge of Module"I" should decrease the
potential for water percolation in that area.
VOCs
VOCs were reported in the four monitoring wells this year. One was reported for the first
semester, nine were reported in the second semester. In all instances, the constituents were also
i found in one or more quality control blanks and are therefore "false positives". Re-sampling was
not required this year.
iAt MW-3, VOCs have not been detected since October 2001.
Surface Water
Surface water samples were not obtained when attempted this year. Water was present, but not
iflowing at those times. Further attempts will be made to sample surface water when conditions
permit.
HISTORICAL TIME SERIES PLOTS
Historical Time Series Plots are presented in Appendix F. Note that constituents not detected are
plotted at a value of half their respective detection limits. Outliers were included in the plots as
directed by RWQCB staff.
i
s Foothill Sanitary Landfill g Department of Public Works/Solid Waste
i2ND Semester/Annual 2003 Groundwater Monitoring County of San Joaquin-January 30,2004
